Leaders of most teachers 'and education workers' union organizations, members of CPLP-Sindical da Educação attended the International Seminar organized by FENPROF, on April 28, 2016.
In the opening session of the seminar “A Progressive Unionism at the Service of Education for All”, Manuela Mendonça, National Secretary of FENPROF he justified the choice of the theme saying that this “theme highlights the role of teachers 'unions in defending not only the teachers' socio-professional interests, but also the right to an inclusive and quality education, which only the public school can guarantee for all. And he went on to quote John Dewey, an American pedagogue from the early 20th century, who said that "teachers' unions" were at the forefront of all movements designed to improve public education, to introduce the principles and ideals of progressive education in schools attended by most children; they were the main instrument, not only protecting teachers from individual abuse, but also in opposing attempts by politicians to use the public school system to their advantage ”.
This was followed by an extremely participative debate, which was attended by some union leaders from CPLP-SE.
This seminar was attended by 39 organizations from 26 countries in Europe, Africa, North America, Central America and Latin America and Asia.
